It’s 10:15 a.m. I’m making my way from the kitchen to the living room after setting down Louie’s bowl. He’s there now, eating, while I carry my laptop, the last surviving MUJI pen in this house, and my leather notebook to the couch.

I can’t believe I’ve had this notebook for over ten years—and to think I once bought it for school. For a couple of years now, it has quietly taken on a new life. It’s filled with Substack ideas, reminders, random word definitions, astrological notes about my sign, small anecdotes, song titles, and feelings… things I never imagined it would hold back then.

Isn’t it funny how life works that way? We often begin with one purpose, only to discover something richer unfolding along the way.

I like flipping through it from time to time. I often find inspiration there:

Wabi-sabi.
Wabi, which translates to less is more, and sabi, which suggests an attentive melancholy. Together, they describe an awareness of the transient nature of things—and a quiet appreciation for what carries the marks of time. A way of living that finds beauty in imperfection and accepts the natural cycle of growth and decay.

In its cracks, its worn edges, and the randomness of what I’ve filled it with, my notebook feels quietly wabi-sabi—a little imperfect, ever-changing, and full of unexpected beauty.

Just like the handmade teacup I bought on Etsy from this seller a couple months ago.
Its uneven rim reflects the hands that made it. The small irregularities are what make it beautiful.

Much like the wrinkled bedsheets on my bed, still waiting to be made this morning. Soft, creased from a night of deep rest.

I grab my phone and check on my Amazon order. Great news—the new Bialetti Moka pot arrives tomorrow. I can’t wait to make coffee in it.

I think of the Gemini espresso maker that’s been part of our kitchen for the past six years, and how we tragically lost one of its ceramic cups. I have no plans of getting rid of it, though. Brewing two cups at once has been tricky.

Lately, I’ve only been drinking Lavazza Inblu ground coffee. I found it at Eataly earlier this year.

Breakfast won’t be skipped in this house, and we like to eat in season.
This morning: Roma tomatoes on seeded sourdough, a light layer of cream cheese, drizzled with olive oil, finished with sea salt and black pepper.

I add to my to-do list: Hunt for a nice pepper mill.

As I flip through my notebook, I come across a quote:
“Comparison is the thief of joy.”

Note to self: Cultivate lasting joy.

My mind drifts back to this idea of finding beauty in imperfection, so I write:

- A worn leather bag that’s carried a life well lived.
- The wildflower growing between the cracks of the pavement I stepped on this morning reminds me that I, too, can grow in the most unexpected places.
-The wrinkles forming around mine and Ryan’s eyes, each one a small record of years of joy and laughter.

The list goes on.

The wine bottle sitting on my entryway table, next to the mail, catches my eye. It reminds me of our meal at Baby Bistro last week—the Koshihikari rice with uni was the highlight. In last week’s letter, I wrote about a wine that stayed on my mind. I’d been searching for it ever since, so you can imagine my delight when I saw it on the menu, right there in plain sight.

Before I know it, the day is almost done. Too tired to make dinner so I order takeout and put on one of my all-time favorites, Someone Like You (2001).

Hmm what do you know? Ashley Judd is also eating takeout. We’re both eating Chinese, except I’m on the floor and she’s sitting next to Hugh Jackman. Her “outfit” is perfect. The place I ordered from (Genghis Cohen) isn’t half bad either. Almost makes the puffy face tomorrow worth it.

But that’s tomorrow’s problem.

Let’s see… what can I update you on?

For starters, I’ve been in a bit of a weird funk lately, so you can blame that for my absence on Substack. That said, I have found some joy this month in a handful of things:

• One of many highlights: I borrowed a large Park Tote from Vivrelle, which was both exciting and, honestly, kind of life changing. I’ve been calling it a “hack” because, let’s be honest, borrowing a designer bag each month feels like a fashion girl’s dream. The only downside is that you have to move fast/add them to your wishlist to keep tabs on them since pieces get snatched up quickly. My pick is currently on its way back to Vivrelle, so I’d suggest keeping an eye out and hearting it if you’re interested in borrowing it too. It’s such a great bag. It never left my side this month, even for the smallest errands. I also think it would make an amazing baby or travel bag.

• Westman Atelier just launched a Hydrobalm Tinted Lipstick, and it does exactly what it promises. It hydrates your lips while adding a sheer, yet buildable, splash of color. I was lucky enough to receive Café Crème, Bob (named after Gucci Westman’s dog), and Soda. I love all of them so much that I’m already thinking about picking up Onyx.

• Paid a visit to Scout. Fell in love with this Giorgio tee but decided to get something else instead.

• I know we’re unlikely to see rain anytime soon, but I’m still searching for the perfect umbrella holder…

• I’ve been burning incense to set the mood. It takes me back to when I was little and my grandma would sage our house.

• I love many things from Christofle, especially if they’re vintage. I’ve been on the hunt for a special picture frame to add to my collection, and I recently came across this stunning one on Etsy. Now all that’s missing is the perfect photo to go inside.

• I also came across two stunning vintage Giorgio Armani scarves, one with fringe and one in cashmere. A Jil Sander cotton trench, and a Ralph Lauren collarless linen jacket. Consider this your sign to start your vintage hunt.

• I’ve been blown away by this deodorant from Agent Nateur in Ambroxan Cloud.

• Not new, but this Nautilus Knife from Sophie Buhai that I got almost three years ago still brings me so much joy. It makes something as mundane as opening the mail a better experience.

• I stopped by RLT in Montecito and left with a new vintage pair of jeans and their boyfriend tee. I love it even more than the baby tee!

• I have a great collection of vintage Levi’s, and my favorite belt to pair them with is the classic one from The Row. I own it in gold with black and brown with silver (I took it from the men’s section), and I finally picked it up in the classic black with silver.

• I’m unintentionally expanding my lounge/lingerie collection. I’ve recently added a few pieces to my already extended collection of Kye Intimates. I restocked on the Mies, and recline brief. Picked up the recline pants, cami, and French sleeve (below).

• Last Saturday we had breakfast at Courage Bagels. My go-to is always tomato and cream cheese on a burnt everything bagel, and, if available, the cave cheddar on sesame. I’ll usually order an orange juice and an iced cappuccino if the day calls for it, otherwise hot, plus a crunchy almond jar to go.

• Not pictured but I finally got my beige Tove trousers and black Row slacks tailored. I’ve had them for over three years and had never worn them out. Big mistake, HUGE. I called The Row store on Melrose and they told me to go to Anoosh off on La Cienega.

• I was in Pasadena this week, and although it was a quick visit, I always make time to drive by the Father of the Bride house and pick up a sandwich from Roma Market.

• I was also in Malibu, and if ever I’m in the area, I always make a pit stop at Canyon Gourmet and take the scenic route. They were out of eggs, but I managed to pick up a fresh country loaf, berries, passion fruit, and homemade raspberry jam.

• I haven’t finished Wuthering Heights yet, so until I do, I’m not letting myself buy anything else, but I’m really eyeing Strangers. It’s all over my feed, and now Gwyneth has been cast. I need to read it soon.

• Earlier this month we drove up the Santa Ynes Mountains and it was pure magic. I believe we took the Gibraltar Road Scenic Drive.

• Matcha is a staple in this house, but I recently leveled up the dosage—4 to 6 grams with water at 175° for the perfect frothy, almost gel-like consistency. Thanks TikTok

• Still Here NY released new pieces today, and I picked up the Host Pant in Stone along with the slacks in khaki.

• I tried possibly the most unique wine I’ve ever had at Little Fish on Melrose, and now I’m on a mission to find the last bottle. It had the most delicious fennel notes. They really carry some of the best wines and nail the pairings.

• Rōz launched its new campaign in collaboration with Lily Collins, and we celebrated at Du-Par’s with fries, milkshakes, and custom ketchup bottles and all. I’m a sucker for nostalgia and this hit right on the nose.

• Our new place has strong château influences, so I’m feeling very drawn to English country house interiors. I’d love to incorporate some of that into our space this year. I’m gathering inspiration from the one and only.

• I’ve been scrolling endlessly on 1stDibs lately, more than usual. It’s both soothing and anxiety-inducing, depending on the day.

• I finally had breakfast at Wildes. I’ve been a couple of times for dinner, but breakfast is a whole other vibe. Highly recommend. They make a great cortado.

• I’ve been taking lots of baths lately. I’m really loving Susanne Kaufmann’s Mallow Blossom Bath paired with Santa Maria Novella’s Melograno bath salts, with a Diptyque Baies candle burning in the corner and Van Morrison playing on my stereo.

• Jasmine is one of my favorite scents in the world, possibly because it feels so nostalgic—it’s also my mom’s favorite scent and flower. I was gifted two bouquets filled with jasmine, and even if the weather says otherwise, it already feels like spring.

• Not pictured but we’ve been touching grass a lot lately, and I mean that literally. It feels so good to ground yourself and quite literally just hang.

It still feels surreal to say that.

After seven years of living in our very first home, Ryan and I finally found a place to call our own and moved in three weeks ago. Saying goodbye to our first apartment together was bittersweet. On one hand, we were more than ready for this next chapter; on the other, it was sad to leave the place where we built our life together—where we laughed endlessly, made love, made war, and truly grew up side by side. But if there’s one thing I know for sure, it’s that home is wherever you make it, and our new place is already starting to feel like exactly that. I can’t wait to create so many more memories here!

Ry and I have been slowly getting the house in shape now that we’re back from a very short but sweet trip to Vegas. Only the Eagles and family time could convince us to hop on a road trip just four days after moving, and I must say it was absolutely worth it.

Watching the Eagles perform live at the Sphere was pure magic. If there was ever a concert that felt very me, it was this one. The montages of Los Angeles, highlighting the Sunset Strip and other iconic institutions felt like a love letter to the city and a reminder of why LA is worth living in. I wish I could go back and embarrassingly sing my heart out all over again. If you can find tickets, GO.

It was a quick trip, but we managed to squeeze in a little shopping. I stopped by Saint Laurent to take a peek at a bag I’ve had my eye on for a while. Sadly, it was even more beautiful in person—perfectly slouchy, buttery soft—and even sadder, I had to pass. We had one thing on our minds, and that was a Rimowa!

As you might imagine, I was living (and partially still am) out of boxes, so I packed ultra light and kept things very basic, relying on whatever I could manage to find.

Cipriani in Vegas is always a must, so we made a last-minute reservation. I wore my trusty Totême midi skirt (found one here in this color), vintage Prada heels, a Flore v-neck long sleeve, Matteau classic belt, Row bag (here’s a brown one), and a vintage suede jacket that carried me through the entire trip.

Our escrow started back in October and felt like it took forever, then suddenly everything happened all at once. We needed a bit of respite, but now that February has arrived, we’re starting to get back into the swing of things. I’d love to take you along on this new-home journey as everything comes together.

After cooking the whole feast last year, I happily traded my apron for a seat at Sunset Tower with my husband’s family this Thanksgiving. It was fab. I was having such a good time I completely forgot to grab a proper outfit photo, but I did manage to snag an awkward little fit check and posted it here. The boots are vintage Gucci (Tom Ford era) exact ones here, the trench is a Net-A-Porter steal, and underneath (though you couldn’t really see it) I wore a Toteme cotton-satin maxi skirt with a thin ribbed cashmere Prada V-neck I scored on The RealReal (exact one here).

Technically this package landed on my doorstep at the beginning of November, and it’s only now making its debut on Substack. I’m loving the silver MyTheresa box—but more importantly, I’m obsessed with this tassel loafer that’s been on my wishlist forever. For the record, I’ve mentioned this on Instagram before, but I went to private school and wore loafers daily… and honestly, it scarred me. Happy to report I’m one step closer to healing the loafer-related PTSD in these.

Sakara did a limited collaboration with Doen, and I was lucky enough to shoot content for it! The Holloway Pouch is something I’d genuinely buy on my own and will treasure for years. I can’t speak on the supplements just yet, but I’m sure they’ll come in handy as we head into peak holiday chaos. You might want to grab yours…

I’m no stranger to the Neutra VDL House, but I’d never seen the rooftop reflecting pool actually filled. They only do it for special installations or events, so we’d never caught it in all its glory until this last visit. I also happened to snag a baseball cap on my way out, and it’s easily my new favorite in the collection.

A now-infamous diner just opened in my childhood (and current) neighborhood, and it’s stirred up some feelings I’d been keeping tucked away, so I need to get them off my chest. While I’m thrilled that Larchmont has gained so many amazing spots over the past few years, I miss the old favorites I grew up with. I miss the simplicity of grabbing toiletries at Rite Aid (now closed) or enjoying a coconut ice cream with my mom at Thrifties on our way out. I miss picking up a magazine with my coffee at Above the Fold (also recently closed). I still remember my first date with my high school crush at Baskin Robbins like it was yesterday. I miss reading a book at Le Petit Greek right before the dinner rush while eating Spanakopita and people-watching. I miss the old owner of Larchmont Pizzeria. I miss when The Bungalow used to be the spot and the juicery still existed a few doors down. I miss when Larchmont wasn’t this “cool”, it was just charming, thriving on a tight-knit, loving community.

This might sound silly coming from someone who shares her life online constantly, but I have a love/hate relationship with social media. On one hand, I know it opens so many doors for businesses and people alike, and I love discovering new spots and ideas online myself. On the other hand, I hate it when things get over-saturated and everyone rushes to try the same thing at once—like Max & Helen’s, for example. I went on opening night because I live in the neighborhood and it was still under the radar, no crazy line yet. Now? You can’t even find parking to go to the bank. Same thing happened when Levain opened in 2023.

I promise I’m not a hater, nor do I fear change. I just wish there were a way for things to feel balanced, not so over the top. I’m probably adding to the hype by saying the food is actually great (I still believe it’s the best thing that’s happened to the neighborhood in a long time), and I can’t wait for the frenzy to die down so it can earn its place as a neighborhood institution—like the Beauty Store, Larchmont Wine & Cheese, and Chevalier Books—all of which are thankfully still standing. No matter what changes come to the neighborhood, my hope is that some of that old-school magic always sticks around.

Now that I’ve gotten that off my chest (hope I didn’t offend anyone in the process), let’s move on to the lippies I’m currently loving from Mary Phillips. I currently own Overdrive, a sheer cool taupe brown, and First Base, a sheer cool mauve. They glide on smoothly and are the perfect size to keep in any bag.

In other news, my point-and-shoot finally gave out after four years. I had an Olympus Stylus Epic Zoom 80, and although I really loved how the pictures turned out, someone recently told me they tend to give out easily. If you have a better recommendation for a point-and-shoot, send it my way! I’ll leave you with a self-portrait; I’m still on the journey of trying to master the art of the air-dry.

Although I’m still far from perfecting my Mom’s holiday seasoning, both the flavors she crafted and the magic she infused, over the years I’ve begun to find my own rhythm for how I like Christmas to unfold.

The Tree

Four years ago, we started a tradition of buying our Christmas tree from our local Larchmont neighborhood tree lot (which opens for the season on Thursday, November 27, at 9 AM).

I almost always go for the Charlie Brown tree—I’ve forever loved its shape and the nostalgia it carries. The whole process becomes a memory in itself, from picking it out, to watching it get tied to the roof of our car, to seeing my husband struggle as he hauls it up our narrow stairs. I’ll continue to cherish those simple moments that lead to decorating the tree and welcoming the holidays into our home. And of course, nothing beats the beautiful pine scent that infuses every corner of our home!

Gifts

When it comes to holiday gifting, I’m very intentional. One year, I gifted a friend a set of four vintage Libbey Zig Zag martini glasses that matched mine as an ode to our shared love of dirty martinis. Another year, I carefully selected vintage wicker baskets and filled them with panettone, a bottle of wine, and a handwritten note—wrapping each with a silk ribbon and hand-delivering them to my people. I made cinnamon rolls last year and shared a basket with my downstair neighbors. No thoughtless gift, ever.

Earlier this year, I designed custom stationery for myself after stumbling upon an old personalized card from my husband’s college years. I suspect his was created by my mother-in-law—the queen of stationery with a knack for personalizing and engraving initials into keepsakes. She used to have her stationery made at Francis Orr in Beverly Hills, which is no longer in operation. As a newbie, I designed mine through Papier with the ultimate goal of graduating to Tiffany & Co. Back in high school, my first boyfriend and I used to write each other love letters, and I would spritz them with my signature scent. Perhaps this year, loved ones will receive my scented stationery as an extra special touch.

One Christmas, my husband surprised me with a pair of satin Saint Laurent ankle-strap pumps, which I treasure and save to wear for every holiday occasion.

It’s been years since I’ve shopped for another pair, but while browsing online this season, I spotted a handful of stunning silhouettes that I just had to round up and share—they’re the perfect mix of timeless elegance and festive fun. I felt a slight breeze yesterday afternoon, and that was all the invitation I needed to officially kick off fall dressing with double-pleated wool trousers and a cashmere tank.

With a showroom appointment and lunch on the agenda, I wanted the look to feel practical yet cool. And honestly, what better finishing touch than a chic sneaker? Just don’t ask me how I’m planning to keep them clean, I’m just living my life right now.

The showroom, Desmar, is nestled in a creative space that also plays host to Hannah Hoffman and Rocky’s Matcha, among others. Conveniently, it’s right next door to Café Telegrama where Ry and I grabbed lunch afterward.

In addition to their made-to-order furniture, Desmar also carries small trinkets and a few antique pieces, like the stunning Japanese wardrobe pictured above. Although I left empty handed, it definitely won’t be the last time I stop by!

It was our first time eating at Café Telegrama, while I’ve heard it has more of a breakfast buzz, I thoroughly enjoyed my salad.

I shared this on close friends when it happened, but I’m brining it here to commemorate one of my favorite May moments because the fashion-lover girl in me is still not over it. Back at the tail end of April I screenshotted (and shared on my stories) an image from Net-A-Porter highlighting a bag I hadn’t seen released or teased anywhere online. The bag was simply styled alongside a dress, almost as an afterthought, but as someone who loves minimal, well-crafted accessories with a touch of ’90s nostalgia, I spotted her right away. I loved her so much I DM’d the screenshot to Net-A-Porter hoping for a clue. They got back to me on the spot and confirmed that the bag was a piece unreleased from The Row. Not sure how she found my profile, but somewhere in the mix of all that, an icon saw my story and replied, asking where the bag was from.

Long story short: the second The Row launched it on their site, with my hand right on the pulse, I sent her the link and she wore it to the MET GALA. It was all very kismet and needless to say, but at some point, the Cecily bag absolutely deserves a place in my closet.

I love May for many reasons, my birthday falls in May, it’s Gemini season (hi), we get a long weekend thanks to memorial day, and most importantly, jasmine hits peak bloom. I love jasmine visually (I’m manifesting lush jasmine bushes in a future home), but mostly I love it because it’s my mom’s favorite flower. The sweet scent lingering in the air as I walk past a cluster of blooms is one of those simple things that will forever bring me joy.

This year for my birthday, I planned ahead and booked a staycation at Chateau Marmont. I couldn’t have asked for a better gift than spending it with Louie and Ryan at one of our favorite places. We did exactly as one should: lounged in robes, ordered room service, wandered through the gardens, ordered pancakes then laid by the pool, played (and maybe lost) a few rounds of ping pong, sipped martinis in bed, and fell asleep to movies on the laptop. It was all bliss.

I packed two Matteau dresses that felt perfect for the occasion (more on that soon), a pair of vintage jeans and white T-shirt (which I wore for both arrival and check-out), a Toteme crochet sweater and long-sleeve dress, a sarong to wear by the pool, two pairs of heels, city sandals, my new Bonnie sneakers from The Row sale, and my very handy and weather appropriate, Oregon tote (similar here).

Oak Essentials is launching a new clean deodorant this month! We’ve been working together, and they sent a bottle my way for me to quietly try out.

I’ve been testing the formula over the past few weeks during my daily walks and workout classes. I’m happy to report that it’s one of those rare products that seamlessly found its way into my routine supporting my busy schedule. A standout ingredient in this formula is blue tansy, known for it’s antibacterial and soothing benefits that help support the natural balance of bacteria on your skin. I think the packaging is also worthy of mentioning, it’s smaller than your standard-sized deodorant, making it easier to toss in your bag and travel with. I’ve grown so attached to the formula that it came with me during our recent staycation. And did I mention it also smells incredible?

On my recent E-bay May finds is this retro mirror organizer from the ‘70s, it instantly grabbed my attention (though it might not grab yours), I also picked up a book by Ludwig Bemelmans—his gastronomical autobiography centered on his greatest love: La Bonne Table (the good table). And finally, a deck of memorabilia playing cards from Sunset Tower that I’ll be tossing in my bag this summer, right alongside the book!

Moving on to what I lost brain cells on: Your Friends and Neighbors starring Jon Hamm. It’s honestly so good, and kind of terrifying in how accurate it is. I loved the show and seeing Amanda Peet in Matteau and The Row was the icing on the cake. (P.S. I have that dress.)

I acquired a new obsession: coconut water in my matcha, thanks to the Erewhon X Vita Coco collab. I bought that drink so many times it definitely left a dent in my wallet but thankfully, Saie partnered with Rocky’s Matcha and restocked my favorite blend. I haven’t gotten around to recreating it yet, but it’s on my June list. Sadly, the limited-edition Saie bottle is sold out, but luckily the matcha itself is the same!

I’ll leave you with my order from The Grill: cheeseburger, medium well, no bun, sub fries for grilled asparagus, with a side of Dijon mustard and ketchup, and an iced tea. (Ryan goes for the brick chicken.) For dessert: rice pudding.

Spring is in full bloom and so is my passion project: MUSES. We kicked things off two weeks ago with Muse 01: . I first met Michaela in 2022 at a beach-side brand event. I distinctly recall complimenting her outfit from across the picnic table. Since then, a genuine friendship blossomed after frequently running into each other during such gatherings. Michaela is one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Her personality is bright and inviting, she’s the kind of person you feel comfortable being around — before you know it, you’re spilling your life’s story over a martini (been there). In my second interview with Muse 02: Ireland, I was inspired by Vesper’s entrepreneurial spirit and her emphasis on running her business via meaningful and thoughtful connections. Vesper and I first met via Instagram after running in the same circle, but it wasn’t until 2023 that we serendipitously and quite literally bumped into each other in person at an event here in L.A. Although Vesper lives in New York, we keep tabs on each other and check-in frequently by replying to each other’s stories. It’s been really amazing to see Vesper’s dream come to life with VESCORP. Augustinus Bader Rich Cream - A refill as well, gave this a go last year and I completely understand the hype.

BeautyBio GLOfacial Concentrate solution - To go with my BeautyBio device, I use this in between facials. Gets all the gunk out of your pores and saves you $$$.

ROZ Hair Styling Cream - I haven’t tried this product yet and I desperately needed a styling cream. I’m a huge fan of ROZ, so I can’t wait to try this! Will be reporting back.

Where I’ve Visited:

Architecture, Melrose - A bookshop and café that sells architecture books (archival and rare) in partnership with Community Goods. You won’t find matcha and sliders at this location, instead you’ll be greeted by spectacular walls full of books you can buy or candidly leaf through while you wait for your cold brew (or in my case iced tea). I also got a hot dog, which I would’ve loved to have enjoyed on site, but my meter was up. It was 10/10. Official opening today.

Levit House, Beverly Hills - Designed by Richard Neutra in 1961, perched up at one of the highest points in Beverly Hills offering insane views of the city. This is a private residence, but it has been loaned for public viewing (this month only) to Peter Blake Gallery—Peter has reimagined it with his unique pieces of furniture. On view until March 16, FREE admission tickets here.

If you plan on visiting might I suggest you also grab a copy of Ronnie Sassoon’s (the current owner) book. Her style and taste are impeccable.

Sal’s Place, West Hollywood - It’s back… I first found out about this place through a friend’s Instagram story—I recognized the iconic booths from the previous restaurant, Il Piccolino. At first I was sad to hear of their closing, but after visiting Sal’s place last summer, “it softened the blow” as my friend said it would. Highly recommend visiting as they’re seasonal only.

What I’m Watching:

With Love, Meghan on Netflix - I really don’t understand why this woman gets so much hate. Some parts were a little cringe, I admit…but overall, I enjoyed watching, especially episode 8 when she brings out Alice Waters - chef, restaurateur, food writer, and author of Chez Panisse.

Beauty Treatments:

Nontoxic Smoothing Treatment - I have to credit my sister-in-law, who first introduced me to this life changing treatment back in 2022. I’ve been visiting Tania at Méche ever since. This smoothing treatment is tailored to you, meaning your results will vary depending on what you want to achieve. I have curly hair that can get a tad bit unruly if I let it be, so I like to visit Tania every six months to give my curls a little TLC. I got a bob last September and I really wanted my hair to be 0 maintenance so I asked to go as straight as possible. I loved not having to worry about blow drying my hair after a shower, and the best part is how healthy my hair looks and feels. I’m not sure if Tania is taking on any new clients but it’s worth a try. Tell her I sent you!

Earlier in January, Toteme launched Garderob—a capsule curation of what they consider core pieces in a capsule wardrobe. Whilst browsing their curation, I came across a handful of pieces being teased for spring/summer 25. This puffed sleeve cardigan stood out, and I quickly added my name to be notified for when it would be available. It arrived earlier this month and needless to say, I’m truly obsessed. I went with a small but could have easily opted for a medium for a more dramatic effect. It weighs nothing, making it perfect for spring (even though Los Angeles feels like it might be skipping this season, it’s currently very hot) but can also work for a chilly summer night. I needed something that felt effortless and easy to throw on, and this hits the nail on the head.

I mentioned Matteau was having a sale on my last post, this arrived earlier this week and I knew it would be perfect. The relaxed shirt is a cult classic for a reason but this color in person is the real show stopper (more on that soon).

I’m seeing a lot of shades of blue this year, starting with the Jolene jacket from The Row—which I shared earlier in February via IG stories—it sold out immediately as I knew it would. My friend Helen linked this alternative from Ralph Lauren, and I quickly snagged as the price seemed very reasonable for a utility jacket.

Heaven is a place on earth and it goes by the name of Studio Ford—a Los Angeles based textile atelier that celebrates the artful practice of traditional Indian block-printing. Josie, the founder, designs her textiles in her studio which are later produced in close collaboration with local craftspeople in Jaipur, India.

I took this little hand painted antique Kashmiri Paper Lacquer box home with me from my first visit (as a little souvenir from India), but I plan to come back as so many of Josie’s textiles caught my attention. Quilts are a labor of love, from pattern making to stitching, but what I find so special about them is that they can be passed down through generations. Studio Ford also offers baby quilts, and I can’t wait to own one for my future child someday!

The last thing to note and highlight is Iris+West, a modern and minimalist lash + brow studio located in Echo Park right next to Bucatini. They’re also an LA based studio that’s been around since 2015 and are mostly known by word of mouth, the best recommendations often are ;). I wish I had more exciting things to report on but here we go…

On Monday I dropped off three rolls of film to be developed, one of them for a project I recently worked on, and the other two were from last year that I never got around to. Yesterday after going through all the photos, I was transported back to last summer. One of the reasons I love to shoot film (aside from the subtle grain effect and colors) is for the anticipation. I eagerly wait to see the subtle imperfections in each shot. Knowing that I have a limited number of photos I can take on film adds to a more meaningful captured moment. I often forget what I capture with a digital camera, but film always provides me with tangible memories and a sense of nostalgia that digital could never replicate. I truly feel connected to that moment in time.

That same Monday Morning, I wore these JJJJound x New Balance sneakers that I briefly shared on stories and I got an overwhelming amount of responses, so I thought I’d share them here too. Same goes for the socks, which I can’t take credit for — my friend Anna put me on to them last year and I’ve been wearing ever since. Later that day, I stopped by Cookbook to grab a mid-day matcha and a slice of olive cake. I’m pretty sure they know me as the “ice on the side” girl by now and I love it! I brought them to Ryan’s work as a “treat”, when in reality it was just a pretense to spend a little quality time. One thing I’ve learned after almost 7 years of marriage is that love grows when you water it.

This morning I made myself a very indulgent breakfast which consisted of: english clotted cream and strawberry jam on toasted wheat sourdough (although my palette begged for the aforementioned on a scone). Accompanied by what people like to call “Bulletproof coffee” which consists of freshly brewed coffee (you can also use instant) and about 1 tbs of ghee. I like to add honey for a bit of sweetness and a pinch of salt to balance things out. You toss it all in a blender and in return you get a frothy/milky delicious coffee to hold you through the thick of it. If you decide to make this, take it easy on the salt. I’ve learned the hard way…

In other news, I took a peak at Matteau’s archive sale this morning and this relaxed shirt in an Yves Klein blue really spoke to me. Sadly, I see that it’s mostly sold out on their site but there’s a variety of sizes on Net-a-Porter, only not on sale. I own this shirt in a punchy red hue and love the cut and fabric.

I almost forgot to mention, I made a note to share my favorite meal of the week: Goop bbq chicken pizza + arugula salad on top. Ryan and I split it for dinner this week and I ate until I had to unbutton my jeans a little and we finished watching the last 30 minutes of the new season of White Lotus.

Every February there is one thing that looms on my “to do” list — my upcoming yearly pelvic exam. I won’t squeal or make a sound at the sight of anything gory, but it’s game over if I get a paper cut. The thought of getting blood drawn sends a tingly sensation through my body. You know, that numbing feeling when a part of your body falls asleep. That feeling runs straight through me at the sight of a needle. Typing this seems to be triggering it.

It’s basically bronzer liquified and it gives you the most natural sun kissed look. Genius to be honest, I love to look tan during summer, but you’ll most likely find me with a hat under an umbrella wearing SPF 50. To achieve the look, I used to rely on my typical powder bronzer but who wants powder on their face when it’s 85 degrees out?

A card. I still hold on to all the mementos from my single days. My girlfriends and I would give each other chocolates and write each other cards on Valentine’s Day. These small treasures will transport you back in time one day.

Host a galentine’s dinner, each person can bring one thing or you can order takeout. The point is to have fun, maybe watch a movie or simply connect. Go all out with decorations or keep it chic and simple just candle lit.

Do people even dance in LA anymore? Valentine’s Day this year lands on a Friday, perhaps a night out with friends at Gold Line or dinner reservations at Bar Etoile.

Want to go all out? Host a party and everyone can bring a + 1!

For the couple:

Create memories. The simplest of things go a long way, like quality time together in pajamas.

Put on some music and dance in your living room.

Light some candles, share chocolates.

My favorite part of Valentine’s Day is receiving and giving a card, without fail I end up in happy tears.

Cook a meal together and finish a bottle of wine whilst doing the dishes with music in the background. Take a bath or a shower together.

Sleep in the next day and order breakfast, take a scenic drive and put some tunes on.

Reserve a corner at your favorite bar and share a bottle of wine past midnight.

It can also be as simple as making your loved one’s morning coffee, just the way they like it. A kiss on the forehead or a text saying “I Love you”. Love is in the details and “expectation is the root of all heartache”, remember that this day is about love, and love comes in different ways.

Don’t compare yourself to others, there will be plenty of posts on social media highlighting this day. Some couples may not find a romantic time to celebrate, they may be long distance, or perhaps new parents trying to navigate. Some may not have someone special, some may be grieving. Hold on to that heaven of yours, whatever that may be!

My mother emigrated to Los Angeles at the age of 16, bright-eyed and full of courage and determination. She built a home here for me and my siblings. Los Angeles is the city that raised me, my home, and it is home to many that — like my mother — came to the city of Angels to fulfill their hopes and dreams. She moved out of LA (for health reasons) a couple years ago, but whenever I would drive down PCH or get a whiff of night jasmine (her favorite flower) on a summer’s night it would remind me of all the wonderful memories we shared in this beautiful place we called home. When I was younger, my mother would often grab her car keys and prompt us to get in the car: “hurry up, we are going for a drive down PCH.” It was her favorite spontaneous thing to do, many many times we would drive down the coast with windows down and without a destination. We would park on the coastline of whichever beach and climb down the rocks to dip our toes in the salty water, and after we’d spend 10 min trying to get the sand off our feet, we would head towards a little shack that served garlicky baked clams. One of my fondest memories is when we serendipitously discovered El Pescador beach on one of our adventures and found ourselves on a cliff overlooking the ocean. We hiked down a trail towards the beach, it was isolated and picturesque, something out of a movie waiting there just for us. A true paradise, an earthly heaven that until January 7th, I also shared with my husband who is a native Angelino as well. Last week, that heaven hellishly incinerated into ash and debris. I grieve and pay my respects to this beautiful place, to this beautiful city, and to the beautiful memories I hold so close to my heart.

It’s hard to articulate the level of sadness, sorrow, and devastation that roams in the air of Los Angeles today. Everyone knows someone directly who has lost everything in the cities of Altadena, Pasadena, Palisades and more. Complete neighborhoods, precious lives, passed down heirlooms, invaluable things, people’s entire life’s work. Anything and everything you can think of, and you do not have to be born or raised in Los Angeles to mourn them. LA holds a special place in people’s hearts, and it is home even to those who have only stepped foot in it for just a second. Los Angeles is home to a mixture of things and people from all backgrounds. From the wealthy and famous to hardworking immigrants, from historically significant buildings to valleys and canyons. It is the place that makes and breaks your dreams every day and it is beautiful. Los Angeles is magical and this community has truly embodied this magic amidst these fires. I’ve seen light in spite of darkness, and it has been so touching to witness how this community has come together to help one another. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost their home and their neighborhood due to the Palisades and Eaton fires. Together we will rebuild one day at a time.

It’s 3:00 PM and I’m writing to you from a very comfy couch. So far I’ve had a very productive day: I woke up around 7:20 AM (which is semi late for me), made Ryan breakfast, then headed to Cadillac pilates. I hadn’t been in a while and I suffered. After pilates I made myself some breakfast with some of the provisions we bought this weekend in Ojai. There are two honey vendors whom I met last summer that sell the best honey. I was running low, so we decided to make the drive and stock up on some things. I bought a small loaf of sourdough, really good goat cheese in olive oil, some orange juice (citrus is in season and Ojai is also known for their oranges), and french marmalade (the vendor is from France and her recipes are homemade and organic). After breakfast and some english tea, I headed out the door for my morning walk, I like to listen to a podcast while I get my steps in. I’ve always loved taking walks but lately I’ve challenged myself to hit 10,000 steps or more daily, I track everything via iphone (I find that seeing that number go up entices me to keep going). Shortly after my walk this morning, I took a shower and headed to Sev on melrose. If you’re not familiar, Sev offers laser hair removal (I got for the underarms, in case you were wondering). Winter is the best season to get these types of treatments done, you don’t want to be exposed to the sun after one of your sessions. I am now grabbing a quick and light bite (sushi and green tea) and getting some work/emails done.

Hunt House, Malibu - Designed by Craig Ellwood in 1957, this modernist beach house has been restored by the current owners: Diane Bald and Michael Budman. I’ve been keeping up with this restoration on their IG page since 2020, truly a labor of love! This is a private residence, but it has been loaned for public viewing (this month only) to Peter Blake Gallery - Peter has reimagined it with his unique pieces of furniture. Virginia Robinson Gardens, Beverly Hills - The earliest estate in Beverly Hills, it was the private residence of Virginia Dryden Robinson and Harry Winchester Robinson, heir to J.W. Robinson’s dep. Store (you may have shopped at the Beverly Hills location while it was still around). The property is a historical landmark with beautiful botanical gardens and once the site of Hollywood parties. Fun fact: When I visited, I had NO IDEA that my mother-in-law played a part in raising funds for the property for many years! She told me after I shared with her where I had spent my morning walk. Tickets here.

Raum - A Los Angeles based gallery specializing in midcentury and antique design, contemporary sculpture, and photography. The space is so beautifully curated, you could visit for the ambience alone. If you’re looking for a special trinket, you bet you won’t leave empty handed. I bought a vase for my home here and I’m in love! Appointment only!

The Jazz Café at Cipriani - Cipriani has transformed their upstair space into a 1930’s jazz club. You can dine and drink while enjoying live musical performances. Reservations are required (if you can get in) and they’re very strict with honoring them if you’re running late (just ask me…I lost mine on opening night).

Beauty Treatments:

Masseter botox - I am no longer a botox virgin, I had my first session in September with the best, Dr. Laurence Rifkin. Last name might sounds a little familiar, and that’s because he’s family. I promise this is not a biased opinion (and sure this is my first time on this botox journey, so who am I to talk) but after doing much research on the topic he was the person I trusted the most. Mostly because of the location (jaw) he deals with teeth all day, and many of his patients come to him with this problem. I’ve been grinding like crazy these past couple of years; I wore a mouth guard for a while but it was getting a little out of hand. My jaw felt sore and tight, I would wake up with headaches, so I really wanted to explore this option. It’s been two months and I feel SO much better, I can also notice a big slimming difference on the side of my jaw (bonus) and Dr. Larry (as many like to call him) is so conservative and gentle, I will always recommend. I’m due to come in later this month for a touch up!

Contrapposto Clinics - The most luxurious cosmetic and dermatology clinic with the same interior designer as The Row! The interiors alone are a gravitational pull, they offer peels, lasers, and injectables (I almost came here for masseter botox!). You can also book a god sent facial with the best here.

SolaWave Light Therapy Mask - I’m really grateful to the SolaWave team for sending this my way earlier this month. I have been scaring my husband every night before bed since this arrived. I think it’s too soon to speak on the results, but I promise I will circle back later this month with a review. I’ll also link the device here if you’d like to give it a go before that. I mentioned above I’ve only recently discovered botox (and not for fine lines) I pride myself in the work I put every single night, and part of that work involves red light therapy. I’ve been using this wand religiously for over a year. It’s my bread and butter, I can’t wait to see what this mask does for me.

What I’ve been eating:

Cream Top Coffee - My new hyperfixation. The Maru version is by far the best. Erewhon makes a healthier option as well.

Recent Purchases:

A plant, Dracaena marginata - I’ve been holding off on buying a plant, as the last one we had was very beloved until we messed up and accidentally let it die…she was with us for 5 years and was our “love fern”. This time around we wanted to go with something completely different and easier to care for. I visited a couple nurseries but ended up going with FB Marketplace (yes I know, what?), trust me…. the plants are really well priced, the only downside is fitting it in your car etc..but worth it when you’re saving $. This is also where I scored the planter. I searched for “architectural gainey planter” they go for a lot more on places like 1st Dibs, I was lucky enough to get an indoors XL one for basically nothing and in near mint condition. Don’t sleep on FB Marketplace!

Let’s rewind all the way back to Thursday night. Soft Services invited me to D.S & Durga’s store in Venice to experience their new collaboration—the Debaser Buffing Bar.

As some of you may know, I’m a big fan of Soft Services, and I’ve previously shared some thoughts on their buffing bar here. Although previously acquainted, I didn’t know what to expect with this new scent. I hear Debaser is one of D.S & Durga’s cult favorite fragrances; I also know that I’m years late to this brand. I took the liberty of sniffing every perfume cap while I was in the store (no really, I did) to find out if there was anything else that peaked my interest. There were a few others like Cowboy Grass, but I completely get why Debaser was the winner for this collaboration.

With notes of fig (anything fig sign me up), bergamot, coconut milk, and moss (to name a few) I was immediately swoon. The scent feels very universal, and I cannot wait to introduce this new bar to my shower routine.

After the event I grabbed some dinner at Owa with Ryan, Louie (our pup), and two of his closest friends. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice to start, followed by the Kinney and Spicy Tuna rolls. Ryan likes whiskey so naturally he ordered the Akashi, and naturally I stole a couple sips. The whiskey was very smooth, I’m not sure if we would go back for the Maki to be quite frank, but the ambience was very fun. Maybe we got the wrong thing?

Friday morning I took a heated pilates class at one of my favorite studios, Silver Springs, then took myself to Erewhon for a quick healthy bite. I love a heated pilates class but it always knocks the wind out of me, so I have to make sure I replenish my electrolytes asap — I’m currently taking these from Cymbiotika, but I also love these from Moon Juice. Otherwise, you’ll find me sleeping on the couch all day. I quickly cleaned and packed for a little 2 day get away, but before we hit the road we stopped at Ryan’s parents (like we do every Friday) for Shabbat.

Saturday Morning we woke up in Palm Desert (come to think of it, the last time I wrote on Substack was also about the desert), the first thing we did was drive over to Sephora. I accidentally forgot to pack face wash and ended up picking up Mara’s Algae Enzyme Cleansing Oil. My skin has been acting up lately so I wanted to keep it gentle and face washes can be tricky, so I opted for a cleansing oil. I’ve seen this one on TikTok and so far we’ve been loving it (Ryan and I are sharing, it works for him as well since he has sensitive skin).

After breakfast we made a quick run to Whole Foods for some light grocery shopping. We like to keep snacks, fruits, and eggs for the occasional nibble. We made it back home and got in a little indoor workout, there was no physical way we were getting our usual step count outside. It was extremely hot so we laid by the pool and while I read, Ryan listened to his podcast. It was quite nice and relaxing.

My go-to juice at Whole Foods is Green Dream (previously called Doctor’s Orders). I like to get a separate cup with ice and pour it over. It is the best drink to sip on during a heat wave. We swam a few laps, showered, then decided that In-N-Out was a good idea. We kept it pretty light and ordered protein style burgers and shared the fries. I posted about this on my close friends but milkshake dipped in fries?….controversial!! I whole heartedly believe that In-N-Out always tastes better outside of LA.

Before we knew it, we were getting ready for dinner at Melvyn’s—located inside the Ingleside Estates and full of old Hollywood glamour.

I don’t know how, but we managed to finish dinner after our late lunch. Where there’s a will, there’s a way I guess. We ended the night with key lime pie and a brief conversation with the couple next to us. Louie is always a conversation starter, he is so well behaved everyone is always in awe.

The food at Melvyn’s is always amazing, but the scenery is everything.

Sunday morning was rough, we got to bed late and therefore had a late start. During the week we typically wake up around 6:00 AM and we go to bed around 10:00 PM the latest. My schedule was so thrown off, so I begrudgingly made my way into the kitchen and asked Ry to make us breakfast. He made us some scrambled eggs with sliced tomatoes and avocado. Somehow we made it out of the house and spent two fabulous hours at the golf store. I had a lot of fun putting together outfits for Ry, but after two hours we both needed sustenance.

We ended our weekend with home made Aperol Spritz, leftover lunch scraps, and a not so bad drive back to LA…not so bad because I slept through it (sorry babe).

I’m always sad to leave Palm Desert, we love it there so much. It always feels relaxing and reenergizing at the same time, it’s the place to go to help you get you back on track for another work week ahead!
